#SayWhat: Two UP Cops Got Suspended For Not Recognising The Police Chief

Imagine the consequences of not recognising the head of your organisation at a busy stretch on a busy day. Worst case scenario, maybe a bad appraisal, right?

Wrong.

Two police officials in UP’s Noida invited the ire of the state top cop after they did not recognise him and failed to salute him.

Sub-inspector Hari Bhan Singh and constable Yogesh Kumar, who were posted at Noida’s Sector 39 police station on Wednesday, were suspended from duty after they allegedly failed to recognise the UP police chief OP Singh, who was in plainclothes. The cops were also found to be not wearing their caps at that point of time.

According to a report in Times of India, the police chief was angered by the casual behaviour of the cops after he found that the cops were not wearing their caps and even asked others in his escort vehicle about the top cop’s identity.

Noida SSP Ajay Pal Sharma said failing to recognise the DGP and not saluting him indeed amounted to indiscipline. “As disciplinary action, they have been suspended with immediate effect,” Sharma said. Interestingly, the two cops did not have any prior information about the senior officer passing the stretch.

The SSP also made it clear that the cops did not argue with the DGP and recognised him after reaching near the vehicle, PTI reported.
