UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s surprise guests – Mulayam’s son and daughter-in-law and a BSP leader

Aparna and Prateek meeting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minisiter Yogi Adityanath is being termed as a "courtesy call"

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday had some unexpected guests — Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav, her husband Prateek Yadav and Bahujan Samaj party (BSP) leader Ramvir Upadhya — at the VVIP guest house in Lucknow where he is presently putting up.

Aparna Yadav, who unsuccessfully contested the Assembly election from the Lucknow Cantt seat, is Mulayam’s younger daughter-in-law. The meeting, which is being termed a “courtesy call”, has raised eyebrows as Aparna had also attended a public function of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state capital earlier.

She arrived with a bouquet of flowers at the VVIP guest house and was present there for around 20 minutes. The other surprise guest was senior BSP leader Ramvir Upadhaya.

Upadhyaya, who earlier tried to dodge the waiting mediapersons, later said that he met the chief minister to draw his attention over an attempt on the life of his son in the recent past.

“I raised the issue of security of my son and myself with the chief minister who assured that he will look into the matter,” he said.

Known as Samajwadi Party’s ‘Chhoti Bahu’, Aparna Yadav was fighting against sitting MLA Rita Bahuguna Joshi from the prestigious Lucknow Cantonment seat in the recently held Uttar Pradesh elections. Joshi had switched loyalty from the Congress to the BJP just a few months before the elections.

It was for the first time that the Samajwadi Party (SP) had fielded a Yadav clan member for the Lucknow Cantt seat. She had started campaigning for the party in the seat in March 2016. The ticket was announced way before the family feud in SP was out in the open.
