After PM Modi’s announcement of de-legalising the 500 and 1000 note on November 8, 2016, the Indian economy has taken a sudden u-turn. Understanding the concept of faceless, paperless and cashless economy has suddenly become necessary for the common people.
Not just the urban part but the rural India also stands on the verge of being cashless and digitalized.
Keeping this in mind, for the first time in Northeast the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in Guwahati, Assam, organised a digital fair to inform people about the benefits of Digital Payment.
DigiDhan Mela was organised on January 11, to teach the users to download, instal and use the various digital payment modes for carrying out a smooth digital transaction. The awareness drive plans to prepare the citizens and merchants for the digital transactions.
The fair witnessed participants from banks, telecom companies, mobile wallet operators, transportation network companies, Adhaar enabled payment system (AEPS), Department of Post, and traders from organised retail fruits and vegetable chains ,milk booths, agricultural produce, and handlooms.
Meanwhile, the Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, in the presence of Home Minister Kiren Rijjiju and DONER Minister Jitendra Singh and other delegates, launched its indigenously-developed e-Wallet, Tokapoisa.in, which will enable the Assamese people to engage in a hassle-free online transactions and that too in their local language!
“Tokapoisa.in is an mobile app, which has been developed by Assam Electronics Development Corp. Ltd. This app will not only be applicable as e-Wallet, but will also be a virtual payment unit,” Assam IT minister Keshab Mahanta said during a press meet.
He added that the government-related transactions can also be made through the mobile application.
