#BlackBuckPoachingCase: Fans May Rejoice At Salman Khan’s Bail But Bishnois Will Move High Court

The bail was granted amid rumours that the judge's transfer would lead to a delay in the hearing

Salman Khan was granted bail in the black buck poaching case on Saturday afternoon amid much speculation about whether he would be able to walk out of the jail, or if he would have to spend a few more nights behind bars.

Putting all the rumours to rest, the Jodhpur sessions court on Saturday granted bail to the Bollywood actor. He was sentenced to jail for five years for killing two black bucks in Kankani, a village near Jodhpur during the shoot of Sooraj Barjayta’s Hum Saath Saath Hai.

Salman spent two nights at Jodhpur Central Jail before he was granted bail in exchange for a Rs 50,000 jail bond, and two sureties for Rs 25,000, The Indian Express reported. The court has also forbidden him to leave the country. A fine of  Rs 10,000 was also imposed on the day the verdict was announced.

As the news of him getting bail came out on media, his fans across India have already gone into celebration mode, especially on social media. Many Bollywood celebrities were quick to offer their support to the star and took to Twitter:

Bishnois unhappy with bail

Public prosecutor Pokhar Ram Bishnoi said, “This case shouldn’t be seen in the same way with the ones in which Khan has been acquitted by the High Court. The second postmortem report clearly states the animal died of gunshot wounds and the fact that the eyewitness stuck to his statements throughout the trial shows that our case is strong,” he said.

Mahipal Bishnoi, the lawyer of the Bishnoi community tells ANI that they will now approach the Rajasthan High Court against bail granted to Salman Khan.

Transfer of judges

On Saturday, 87 judges of the sessions court, including Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi was transferred in an annual shake-up, NDTV reported. Joshi was supposed to deliver the judgment on Salman’s bail plea. He will be replaced by Chandra Kumar Sngara, the district and sessions judge of Bhilwara in another week.

Joshi had asked for a few more documents in order to study the entire case record before deciding whether Salman should be given bail. However, that did not happen since the transfer order came through on Saturday.

Judge Dev Kumar Khatri, who had sentenced Salman Khan in the black buck poaching case, has also been transferred in this colossal change of Rajasthan’s judicial officers.

“The way the accused killed two innocent black bucks in violation of the wildlife laws…he is a film star, people emulate him and look up to him… and there has been a rise in poaching incidents, so leniency is not justified given the severity of the crime, the evidence and the circumstances,” Judge Khatri had said after delivering his verdict.

What happened since Salman was convicted?

The actor had to spend a night in jail after the Jodhpur court convicted him for 5 years in the black buck poaching case. Other co-accused included Neelam Kothari, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu and Sonali Bendre were acquitted.

Salman’s lawyer had moved a petition in the court for bail and suspension of the sentence. The hearing for bail was adjourned on Friday and reports speculated that Salman may have to spend the weekend in jail due to unforeseen delays in the hearing of his bail application. However, he was given bail on Saturday despite a change in the judge presiding over the case.

But what about the ‘aam janta’?

Even though his fans and many from the film fraternity are heaving a sigh a relief, Twitteratti wasn’t very happy with the bail after just two days in jail in a 20-year-old case. Here are some of the funniest and the snarkiest tweets which clearly mock the judicial machinery of the state:

Tiger kills the black buck and gets jailed.
