If you haven’t been living under a rock, you would know that a full blown Bollywood family drama is being played out on national television starring the Yadav family.

The fight has come to a point where Akhilesh’s mena and Shivpal Yadav’s supporters exchanged blows before a party meeting presided over by Mulayam Singh Yadav began.

This twitter user had an interesting take on the whole thing.

The ongoing fight for power is between the alleged corrupt camp headed by chacha Shivpal Yadav and the young and clean camp headed by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has got us glued to our television set.

Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav is acting as the arbitrator-in-chief.

Although, as of now, Akhilesh Yadav seems to be in the driving seat of Uttar Pradesh, the real power to decide which way his fortune is headed rests with his father Mulayam Singh Yadav.

In the tug of war Shivpal Yadav seems to be winning.

Chachaji harbours chief ministerial ambitions. He replaced Akhilesh Yadav as the state president with the full support of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Much of the fight we see in the Yadav party today is because of Amar Singh who was inducted in SP despite serious opposition of Akhilesh Yadav. The Uttar Pradesh chief minister sees Amar Singh as a symbol of corruption and thinks his presence could hamper his development plank for the upcoming elections in the state.

Shivpal is the one who enabled Amar Singh’s return to the party. Akhilesh saw this as an undermining of his role as the chief minister, he took away all his cabinet portfolios and later sacked him. Soon after, as retaliation Mulayam Singh sacked his other brother from Akhilesh’s camp – Ramgopal Yadav.

Even steven?

Nah! Today at the party meeting Shivpal Yadav called Akhilesh a liar. Mulayam Singh backed him. So clearly, Shivpal seems to be winning the duel.

However, a son is a son. So today, when Akhilesh had to speak in front of Netaji(This is how Akhilesh and Mulayam Singh’s followers address him) during the decisive meeting he choked. With teary eyes, he told his father that he was ready to step down and would never think of forming his own party.

Akhilesh is not just fighting Shivpal Yadav currently.

He is fighting an aged father who at 77, still wants to be the power centre of the party and the government. Who doesn’t think twice before chiding him in public and who doesn’t believe in change much like Amitabh Bachchan’s character in Mohabattein. That a 43-year old politician is not left alone to execute his job shows the general state of affairs in our politics.

An ambitious bhabhi and a step-mom

So, the story goes like this. Sadhna Gupta Yadav, second wife of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh’s step mom wants her son Prateek to take up prominent role in party before elections. She also wants ambitious daughter-in-law Aparna to take centrestage. Aparna, a social activist, has immense liking for Narendra Modi and his policies. Akhilesh is fighting an army full of his own family members and it’s a difficult fight.

Clearly, Hum Saath Saath Hai is an over-rated sentiment when it comes to political families.
