Controversial director Ram Gopal Varma is in news again for all the wrong reasons. After the director failed to appear for the first hearing against his film, God, Sex and Truth, the Hyderabad’s Cyber Crime police is preparing to issue a fresh notice.
A day before God, Sex and Truth was to release on January 25, a social activist filed a complaint against Ram Gopal Varma for promoting obscenity. A case was registered against Varma under section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form. He was also booked under Indian Penal sections 506 and 507 for outraging the modesty of a woman as he, allegedly, made objectionable comments about the social activist and others opposing the movie, as per The News Minute. The movie features popular American porn star Mia Malkova.
As per the report, Ram Gopal Varma failed to appear before the Hyderabad police and his lawyers informed the police that he is out of town and would soon appear before them.
In January, a number of women’s organisations, All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), AP Mahila Samakhya and other groups protested against Varma by raising slogans, accusing him of releasing the movie on web to avoid facing censorship.
After the movie released on web, the director took to Twitter to talk about his movie:
I am really proud of myself that I brought out the hidden topic of Sex out into open through #GodSexTruth and provoked a discussion..I call upon all the youth that this is the right time for u to come out and demand ur sexual freedom and rebel against hypocrisy and dishonesty
— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) January 27, 2018
According to the report, in a tweet Varma said, “I truly believe that there’s no location on earth which is more beautiful and more monumental than a woman’s body.”
