Pehredaar Piya Ki 2: Rohit Suchanti might play young Ratan Singh opposite Tejasswi Prakash, and other details revealed

Seems like Rohit Suchanti of Saath Nibhana Sathiya will play the male lead in Pehredaar Piya Ki 2. Even Shantanu Maheshwari's name is being rumoured

Pehredaar Piya Ki (which means lover’s security guard), the controversial Hindi TV show that grabbed attention for allegedly promoting child marriage by featuring marriage between a g 10-year-old boy and an 18-year-old young woman as if it was no big deal. What was worse? The little man was happily trying to woo his much older ‘legal’ wife. Obviously, the cringe-worthy content got the show banned. The makers had earlier planned to come back with a brand new season of Pehredaar Piya Ki, but now as per the latest reports, actor Rohit Suchanti will be seen playing the male protagonist opposite Tejasswi Prakash.

While there’s no confirmation from anyone yet, Rohit has accepted that he had auditioned for the role. He said: “I had auditioned for the role but haven’t yet got any confirmation yet.”

It was also rumoured that actor Shantanu Maheshwari who can currently be seen in Khatron Ki Khiladi: Pain in Spain, will be stepping into the shoes of young Ratan on the show. However, even Rohit doesn’t seem like a bad choice considering the audience liked him in Star Plus’ show — Saath Nibhana Saathiya earlier.

What was the controversy around Pehredaar Piya Ki?

The content of Pehredaar Piya Ki is what didn’t go down well with the audience who deemed it both vulgar and regressive. Following which on August 29, 2017,  the Sony Entertainment Television confirmed that it had pulled down the show. The development came after a string of complaints to the BCCC (Broadcasting Content Complaints Council) against the show, which revolved around an 18-year-old girl marrying a 10-year-old boy. Earlier this month, the BCCC had also directed the channel to shift the show to a late night slot, besides running it with a scroll stating that it did not promote the concept of child marriage. Even though the audience rejoiced it’s going off the air, the star cast of the show appeared prominently confused and worried with the female lead, Tejasswi giving statements like the following in the media:

I feel it’s just a story and fiction. It’s just a story that we are telling people. So how can you judge any story? You like it okay, you don’t like it, so, you don’t like it. We are not professors, we are not trying to teach you anything.

I think it’s really progressive. But again, a lot of people believe in judging a book by its cover… They love being judgmental and people have nothing better to do than judging somebody else’s work. Then okay, what can I do?
