Sriram Raghavan’s AndhaDhun Gave The Most Epic Tribute To Bollywood’s Piano Song

The tribute had to be chopped from AndhaDhun's rolling credits at the last moment, owing to copyright violations.

Sriram Raghavan is Bollywood’s rockstar nerd, when it comes to noir films. AndhaDhun, which released this Friday, is proof.

He’s seen anything and everything, and he will make sure that even when he comes up with something twisted on his own, he will include a subtle hat-tip to the inspiration. Whether it is Vijay Anand’s Johnny Mera Naam for the title of Johnny Gaddar or a fantastic sequence from Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Parwana.

So, it’s understandable that Raghavan chose to make a tribute for Bollywood’s famous piano song sequences. His latest film, AndhaDhun, based around a blind pianist and a yesteryear actor was the best tribute one could hope for. But the makers went one step ahead and made a super-cut of Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar to Shah Rukh Khan – belting songs of love and heartbreak around the piano.

Unfortunately, owing to copyright issues, the tribute had to be chopped from the film’s rolling credits at the last moment. Filmmaker Atul Sabharwal shared it on his Twitter, and one would have to agree, it was one beautifully put together tribute.
