Mohanlal is now the 1st ​Malayalam actor ​to have​ 3​ films among top-5​ industry openers​

After becoming the only Malayalam actor among the top-5 Indian actor with 2016's highest grossing films, Mohanlal has set another unique record

Seems like Malayalam actor Mohanlal is on a record-breaking spree. After becoming the only Malayalam actor among the top-5 Indian actor with 2016’s highest grossing films, Lalettan has set another unique record in the beginning of 2017.

Last Friday saw the release of Mohanlal starrer Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol. Directed by  Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob and produced by Sophia Paul under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters, the film is fourth Mohanlal release in a span of 142-calendar-days. And as expected, the Complete Actor film took the Kerala Box Office by storm by recording excellent collections throughout the opening weekend.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, which had released on 20 January 2017, is said to have earned a Rs. 2.58 crore on its opening day. The film was rock steady on Saturday and on Sunday, the family entertainer went on to gross another Rs. 3.25 crore to become the second highest single day for a Malayalam film at the Kerala Box Office. By the end of its opening weekend, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has minted Rs 8.70 crore to become the all-time second Malayalam film with highest opening weekend after Pulimurugan at the Kerala Box Office.

And with this unique feat, Mohanlal emerged as the first Malayalam actor to have three films amongst the top 5 highest Malayalam opening weekends at the Kerala Box Office.

Mohanlal’s 2016 Dusshera release and all-time Malayalam grosser, Pulimurugan holds the number one spot with Rs. 12.95 crores on its opening weekend while his last year’s Onam release, Oppam is at number fourth position with Rs. 7.50 crore.
