The theatrical run of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees has finally come to an end at the Kerala Box Office. Directed by Rahul Dholakia and jointly produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Gauri Khan, the action-crime thriller was released during the Republic Day weekend, on 25th January 2017.
Upon its release, the film had faced a stiff competition from Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil and a few Malayalam films — Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol and Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suviseshangal. However, the SRK starrer managed to put up terrific collections. Thanks to the strong fan base the actor has in the God’s own country. Normally, the opening shows of the new Bollywood releases starts from 10:00 am onward, but the opening shows of Raees began at 7:30 am. The gangster-thriller had a good theatrical run in Kerala, especially at the Cochin multiplexes. From its entire run, Raees has minted Rs 3.88 crore at the Kerala Box Office. The film has crossed Rs 1 crore mark from the multiplexes of Cochin alone.
With such huge Box Office numbers, Raees emerged as the fifth highest Bollywood grosser at the Kerala Box Office. Interestingly, the film surpasses the collection of the 2016 Eid blockbuster Salman Khan starrer Sultan to do so. The Mahira Khan film is also the second Shah Rukh Khan film among the list of top 5 Bollywood grossers at Kerala Box Office. The top two slots and the fourth spot were occupied by Aamir Khan starrers — Dangal, PK and Dhoom 3, respectively whereas Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express is at the third position.
The film also featured Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Sheeba Chaddha and Atul Kulkarni in other pivotal roles.
