Aami: Manju Warrier looks convincing in first look poster of Kamala Surayya’s biopic

The first look of Aami starring Manju Warrier has been released. The look confirms that the actress has put in a lot of effort for this biopic

The official first look of the much awaited Malayalam film, Aami has been released. Directed by veteran Malayalam filmmaker Kamal, the film is a biopic of the late iconic writer Kamala Surayya, best known for her poetry. Manju Warrier will be seen essaying the titular role of Kamala Surayya.

Earlier, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan was supposed to do the film, but she opted out from it. On Vidya opting out of the project, there were reports that she was pressurised by few members of right-wing people. However, Vidya decided to stay quiet on the matter.

Aami will showcase all the important stages of Kamala Surraya’s life. From her marriage as Madhavikkutty to banker Madhava Das at the age of 15, to the debut of her autobiography Ente Kadha at the age of 42, the film will portray all important phases of Surraya’s life. It will also show her controversial conversion to Islam at the age of 67.

The first look poster was revealed by Manju Warrier on Friday morning. The actress looks convincing in her new makeover as Madhavikkutty.

Speaking at the first look launch, the Kanmadham actress stated:

I think Madhavikkutty’s role will fascinate every actress in the country and to play her onscreen is my biggest blessing. The two important films in my acting career, Ee Puzhayum Kadannu and Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu, were directed by Kamal sir. And after 20 years this film has given me the opportunity to work with him again

Meanwhile, Kamal said:

This is the happiest day in my life. Everyone on the sets, including the members of Madhavikutty family, told me that Manju has fully transformed and it feels like as if Kamala is standing in front of us. And I’m very happy hearing that feedback

Aami also stars Prithviraj, Murali Gopy and Anoop Menon in pivotal roles.
