Jackie Chan gets rewarded for years of broken bones with a well-deserved Oscar

During his acceptance speech, Chan revealed that he would caress and kiss Sylvester Stallone's Oscar statuette, wishing it would be his someday

After multiple broken bones and breaking a bajillion others, Jackie Chan finally won a well-deserved Oscar. Chan was awarded the Honorary Oscar on Saturday. Not a lot of actors can display the level of dedication that Chan over a career spanning over five decades. Hold on, five decades! Is that even right?

The 62-year-old actor, who looks surprisingly young, started his career as a child actor from a very young age. Ever since, Chan’s devotion has pushed him through the testing early years of his career, a fractured skull, broken ribs and a lot of other injuries he sustained during his many memorable action scenes.

It was evident from his speech that Chan was super excited and in utter disbelief that it was all really happening. Not only did he make jokes about the award just being his first but, he also flipped out and forgot his speech. It is astonishing how the actor has never won an Academy Award before given how good he is at memorising lines.

“After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films, after so many bones, finally,” Chan said as he gripped the golden statuette for the very first time. Interestingly, it wasn’t really the first time he had held the statuette.

During his speech, Chan revealed that when he visited Sylvester Stallone, who was recording the memorable moment on his phone from the crowd, he would caress and kiss his award and wished that he would get one someday. He quipped that Stallone’s award probably still has his fingerprints on it.

Speaking of never winning the award before, Chan said, “Every year when I watch the Oscars with my dad… my dad always said, ‘Son, you’ve got so many movie awards around the world. When are you gonna get one of these?’” He added, “I just looked at my dad, ‘Ha ha ha. Dad, I only make comedy action movies.’”

Chan concluded with expressing his gratitude to Hollywood and said that he was “proud to be Chinese”. The awards were attended by many famous celebrities, including Emma Stone, Amy Adams, Nicole Kidman, Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington and Dev Patel.
