The 74th Golden Globe Awards began with a bang in Los Angeles, California on Monday morning. The award ceremony that was hosted by noted TV-show host Jimmy Fallon saw many celebrities including actor-singer Hailee Steinfeld, Kerry Washington, Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, La La Land actor Emma Stone, noted country singer Carrie Underwood, celebrity power couple Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, pop band One Republic, Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel, Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker and Avengers star Tom Hiddleston among others gracing the red carpet.

While Emma Stone won the award for Best actress in a Motion Picture, legendary actress Meryl Streep won the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Moonlight chronicles the life a young black man as he struggles to find his place in the world in a rough neighbourhood of Miami during the war against drugs.

 

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama: Isabelle Huppert

In the movie Elle, Isabelle Huppert plays the character of a successful businesswoman who is caught up in the rat race of identifying the man who raped her.

 

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture- Drama: Casey Affleck for Manchester By The Sea

Manchester By The Sea traces the journey of Lee Chandler (Affleck) as he travels to Manchester to break the news of his brother’s death to his son, only to discover that his brother had named him the guardian of his son.

La La Land is a romantic tale of Jazz pianist falling for an aspiring actress in Los Angeles.

In the movie La La Land, Emma Stone plays the character of a young actress Mia, who is in Los Angeles preparing for an upcoming audition, when she gets caught in an incident of road rage with Sebastian (Ryan Gosling).

In the movie La La Land, Ryan Gosling plays the character of a struggling Jazz pianist Sebastian, who falls in love with Mia—an actress who is struggling to make her mark. During the course of the movie, the couple is separated due to misunderstanding, only to meet years later at a club satisfied of what they have achieved in life.

 

Best Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical: Donald Glover for Atlanta

In the TV series Atlanta, Donald Glover plays the lead character of Earn, who tries to redeem himself in the eyes of his ex-girlfriend, his parents, and his cousin.

Damien Chazelle is the director of the multi-award winning movie that set the Golden Globes on fire. The movie won a total of seven awards including the best musical or comedy motion picture.

The Crown is the biographical drama based on the early life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

 

Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television: Tom Hiddleston for  The Night Manage

In the TV series The Night Manager, Tom Hiddleston plays the character of Jonathan Pine, who is recruited by an intelligence operative to navigate Washington DC, where an alliance between the intelligence community and the secret arms trade is going on.

 

Best Foreign Film: ELLE (France)

The French movie Elle traces the story of a business woman who is chasing her rapist. The movie has been critically acclaimed by the film critics across the globe.

 

Best Animated Feature Film: Disney’s Zootopia

Produced by Walt Disney Studios, Zootopia is the 3D animated adventure film based in the city anthropomorphic animals, where a rabbit cop and a fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.
