Adele-Beyonce reaffirm their love after Grammys rivalry by (literally) splitting the trophy

While fans engage in heated debates over who's the greatest, Adele and Beyoncé have proven to the world what it is to be a true artist.

Every Grammy Awards, we look forward to a showdown between the two of the current greatest female artists in the music industry- Adele and Beyoncé. While their fans usually engage in heated debates over who’s the greatest, these two artists have risen above their petty squabbles and proven to the world what it is to be a true artist.

Beyoncé was nominated in nine categories across pop, rock, rap genres owing to her versatility, Adele received nominations in five. Even so, Adele bagged five Grammys, winning one for each nomination while Beyoncé only managed to collect two. The two artists were competing against one another for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.

After receiving her first four awards, Adele was appalled that she managed to win Album of the Year as well. “I thought it was her year,” she said. “What the fuck does she have to do to win Album of the Year?”

As she took the stage to deliver her “acceptance speech”, she reminded us all of what it is to exhibit true sportsmanship, modesty, and courage. “I can’t possibly accept this award,” she said. “The Lemonade album was just so monumental, Beyoncé. It was so monumental and well thought-out and beautiful and soul-bearing… we appreciate that. All of us artists here adore you. You are our light.”

“And the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel is empowering, and you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you. I always have. And I always will. I appreciate it,” she added.

As she finished her speech which moved everyone (even Beyoncé) to tears, she proceeded to break the trophy, full-on Mean Girls style, to split it with her competitor.

In an age where competitiveness trumps camaraderie, these two women showed that humility. It is not just their music which drives us to buy their albums (or download their pirated songs for free), it is their compassion which shapes their music and makes it seem alive with humanity. That is the mark of a true artist.
