Tubelight Box Office Collection Day 1: The Salman Khan film gets the lowest Eid opening in 5 years

Tubelight Box Office Collection Day 1: Salman Khan's movie did not live up to the expectations and did not register a great opening at the ticket counters

Salman Khan’s Tubelight witnessed lowest ever opening on Eid. The film directed by Kabir Khan minted Rs 21.15 crore on the first day. The numbers are disappointing as per Salman Khan’s standards. None of his movies has earned this low in the festival of Eid. His last Eid release Sultan became one of the biggest blockbusters of 2016 and so did the 2015v release Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The numbers of Tubelight would definitely shock makers who had pinned a lot of hopes on this movie.

Set against the backdrop of Indo-Sino war of 1962, Tubelight is the story of two brothers Lakshman (Salman) and Bharath (Sohail Khan). Bharath went to war and Laxman set off on a journey to find him. The movie also featured Matin Rey Tangu, a little boy from Itanagar, in an important role and Chinese actress Zhu Zhu. Tubelight was promoted as an emotional movie that would pull the right strings of the heart.

However, the numbers of the movie from the first day tell a different story. The poor opening hints that the movie has not created the buzz as expected and did not connect with the viewers. The reviews of this Salman Khan movie were mostly bad with critics saying this was the worst performance of the star in the recent past.

Here is what Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film’s collection:

With the festival of Eid falling on Monday, it is left to be seen how it performs on the day and the days following it. Salman Khan has emerged as the superstar who has a special gift for fans of the festival of Eid. But, this time his gift might not get him good box office numbers. However, the numbers are expected to shoot up in the coming days and it would be wrong to tag the movie as a flop so early.
