Shankar Mahadevan on teaching music in BMC schools: Economic issues shouldn’t come in way of talent

Shankar Mahadevan will teach music to students in schools run by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Here's what he said about the initiative

Music composer Shankar Mahadevan, who belongs to the famous trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, will now teach music to the students studying in schools run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Speaking to InUth over the phone from Mumbai, Mahadevan said:

Yes, I believe that economic issues should not come in way of talent. On this belief I had started the Shankar Mahadevan Academy which is teaching music to the students across several countries. The teachers from the academy will train the music teachers in BMC-run schools.

Adding further, the veteran music composer hailed the contribution of Aaditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, in the initiative.

Yes, Aaditya has been very supportive of the initiative. He has been actively involved throughout the project.

It was Thackeray scion who had announced the initiative on Twitter.

Extremely glad to announce that Shankar Mahadevan ji @Shankar_Live will be teaching music in BMC schools this year on!!

The move by Shiv Sena can be attributed to its preparations for the all-important BMC polls which are scheduled to be held early this year. The Sena has been ruling the Mumbai civic body since 1997, and is now in alliance with BJP both in the BMC and state government.

Shankar Mahadevan is the member of famous Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio, having composed music for films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Lakshya, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and others. He shot to limelight with the famous album Breathless in 1998. He runs his own music academy which is spread across 67 countries, teaching meritorious students.
