Salman Khan rebuilds 3,000 toilets in a Mumbai slum. Is he influenced by close buddy Akshay Kumar’s Toilet Ek Prem Katha?

Salman Khan recently got 3,000 toilets rebuilt at a colony near Mumbai's Goregaon area. He is currently the brand ambassador for BMC's campaign against open defecation

Salman Khan was roped in as the brand ambassador for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s campaign against open defecation last year. Recently, the actor got 3,000 toilets rebuilt in a Mumbai slum. Salman along with BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta and other civic body officials visited Aarey Colony situated near Mumbai’s Goregaon area for this purpose.

“It feels good, but it’s just a beginning. I think there are 3,000-plus houses where each house has six to eight people. So as many existing toilets were there, we just rebuilt them and gave them water connection,” Salman said.  “In 3,000-plus houses, there were only 36 toilets. So there is a lot of scope. We will get permission to make toilets in their houses, given that they have space in their houses,” the 51-year-old actor was quoted by IANS as saying.

It should be mentioned that Salman has got the toilets rebuilt from his own pocket, earning praises from the BMC boss. Last year, he had joined hands with the BMC to combat open defecation. As part of the campaign, the actor had promised the BMC of five mobile toilets and persuading the people to refrain from defecating in the open.
