Rajkummar Rao’s upcoming film Newton proves that he is the best method-actor in Bollywood today

Rajkummar Rao is undisputably the best method-actor in Bollywood today. And his upcoming film Newton proves so

Rajkummar Rao is known for his sheer versatility in terms of choosing roles. Be it a praiseworthy performance as the slain human rights activist in Shahid or journalist Deepu Sebastian in Aligarh, Rao stands out for his performance in whatever screen time he gets. Now, he will be playing a government official in upcoming film Newton.

As the name suggests, you might be wondering that the flick would be based on the great English physicist Isaac Newton. But it is not the case. Rao plays a government official who conducts an election in an area in Chhattisgarh which was once infested with Maoists. The film directed by Amit V Masurkar will be premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival on 10 February. The National Award-winning actor is said to have shot in the forests of Chhattisgarh in February last year without the internet or mobile connectivity. His efforts have now paid dividends.

Rajkummar has come a long way since his debut in 2010 indie film Love Sex Aur Dhokha. He quickly grabbed attention with his performance in the Dibakar Banerjee’s directorial venture. He also won accolades for his performance in Ragini MMS a year later. What has been appreciated about him is the sheer dedication with which he gets into the skin of the character. Even in 2012 film Talaash, he justified his presence before a star like Aamir Khan with his role as his junior police officer.

To prepare for his role as Shamshad Alam in Gangs of Wasseypur 2, Rajkummar went to Dhanbad’s Wasseypur area and stayed there to pick up the accent. I was left astounded by his performance as a boy-next-door Govind in Kai Po Che and later as Shahid Azmi in Shahid.

Even in a film like Queen which belonged to Kangna Ranaut, Rajkummar did not disappoint and convinced you to hate him for ditching Rani at the last moment before the wedding. In a film like Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, he was the show-stopper despite sharing screen space with stars like Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan.

Do I need to further elaborate on his stellar performance in Citylights and Aligarh? After watching his films, you will realise how actors like him deserve more appreciation.

So happy 2 share tht our film #NEWTON wil have it’s world premier at Berlin i’national film festival.Congrats team @ManMundra @Amit_Masurkar pic.twitter.com/4CPuayojmp
