Plagiarism row: Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon’s Raabta gets court nod for release after Magadheera makers withdraw case

The makers of Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon starrer Raabta heaved a sigh of relief after the plagiarism case filed by the makers of Telugu blockbuster Magadheera was withdrawn. The quashing of the case means that the Dinesh Vijan directorial will finally hit the theatres on June 9.

“They (Magadheera) withdrew the case because they were requested to, and there was a settlement,” sources told InUth.

“We all are aware how filmmakers have been targeted just before the release of their films. The common ploy has been to try and get a stay order against a film’s release until a case is completed. It is often assumed that the filmmakers will panic and settle through compensation to ensure the smooth release of their films,” the makers of Raabta stated in a press release.

It should be mentioned that on Wednesday, the lawyers of Raabta argued for more than five hours and cited the differences between their film and Telugu blockbuster Magadheera. The allegations that the scene featuring 100 warriors being lifted from the SS Rajamouli directorial being lifted were denied by the lawyers of Raabta.

“We have filed the entire script of our film along with a comparative chart showing how the two films are completely different in their story, treatment and expression, something that the Plaintiff ought to have done in the first place *as part of his pleadings to show comparative similarities,” Ankit Relan, a lawyer of T-series stated in the release.

On May 25, the makers of Magadheera filed a plagiarism case against Raabta and approached the civil court in Hyderabad seeking a stay on the film’s release. The petitioners alleged that the Sushant Singh Rajput-Kriti Sanon starrer’s trailer indicated the film was based on reincarnation, the same theme around which the Ram Charan and Kajal Agarwal’s Telugu film was based.

But now since the case has been withdrawn, the film is all set to release.
