Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi is the only politician making sense in the whole Padmavati row

Finally, a politician is talking sense over Padmavati controversy

The official release date of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s visual masterpiece Padmavati is December 1. But, given the arbitrary protests by the Rajput community, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and the Karni Sena and controversial statements by politicians, Padmavati‘s fate remains uncertain.

But, amid all the ruckus, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has the most valid thing to say. Taking a neutral stand, the Union Minister said that he sees films as films. While addressing media at an event on November 12, when quizzed about the controversy, he said,

I see films as films and do not get into its history or geography.

While explaining he that he is neither opposing nor supporting the film, he said,

What you like in a film, should be accepted and what you do not like, should be left there. I am neither supporting nor opposing the film.

While the Rajput community, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the Bajrang Dal and the Karni Sena believe that Rani Padmavati is depicted in a negative way and that the historical facts have been distorted, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy feels that there was an underlying foreign conspiracy.

While speaking to ANI, Swamy said that Enforcement Directorate should investigate the funds SLB received for his movie. Swamy said,

There should be an investigation if there is any ‘foreign conspiracy’ in the film. People in Dubai want to see Muslim invaders as heroes who were on a journey to establish a connection with Hindu women. We have seen many such movies in the last ten years, first, it was on Jodha Bai and now Rani Padmini. It is important to know where SLB got the money to make Padmavati.

Demanding a pre-screening of the film, former Gujarat CM, Shankersinh Vaghela said,

If the movie is released without pre-screening, Gujarat will witness violent protests and law and order may go out of control. I apologise to the cinema owners in advance if people take law into their hands.

Another politician, Diya Kumari, BJP MLA and former Rajasthani princess also spoke on the row.  She said,

The director of the film Padmavati, Sanjay Leela Bhansali should not wrongly depict the story of Queen Padmavati of Chittor. He should get the facts in the film verified by a forum of historians and then release the film.

Strongly opposing Khilji’s character in Padmavati, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha said,

When a film is made with a hero (Alauddin Khilji) in that character, certain portions are sad and disappointing to watch. Because he is known to be the most uncouth ruler of the Delhi Sultanate till date. If any film tries to portray them in the positive light, it will certainly cause a huge discomfort to the emotions of the people. The filmmakers who present the barbaric rulers in a positive light will not be tolerated or spared.

Team Padmavati has time and again refuted rumours about a romantic sequence between Khilji and Padmavati. Recently, Bhansali even released a video reiterating the same.

The film is slated to release on December 1. Recently, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a ban on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film.
