Makers of SS Rajamouli’s film Maghadheera sue Raabta for copying content

Raabta and Maghadheera, the 2009 movie directed by SS Rajamouli, are locked in a legal battle according to media reports for copyright infringement

Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon’s Raabta has found itself in legal trouble ahead of its release. Reports have it that makers of Telugu movie Maghadheera have sued the team of Raabta over plagiarism issue. Maghadheera was helmed by SS Rajamouli and the team has said that Raabta copied their unique story. They have said that the plot was copied and it was an example of copyright infringement.

Producer Allu Arvind in an official statement said that they felt after watching the trailer of Raabta that Maghadheera is a remake of the movie. The team has approached the Hyderabad High Court and they will decide on the issue on 1 June.

Starring Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal in lead roles, Maghadheera was set against two time zones. The movie that released in 2009 went on to become a huge blockbuster. The story of reincarnation of two lovers and their war against an evil force was appreciated by the viewers.

Now, if you have seen the trailer of Raabta, you would know that this movie also chronicles the story of two lovers and their reincarnation. “The story has captured two eras. In one, I am playing a happy-go-lucky boy who falls in love with a girl. And in the other part, I am playing the character of a warrior,” Sushant had said about his character during the trailer launch.

Maghadheera was one of the first movies that made SS Rajamouli a sought after director. It was penned by his father KV Vijayendra Prasad. It was through this movie that Rajamouli’s love for historical fictional drama became evident and paved path for further projects like Arundhathi, Panchamukhi and the Baahubali series.
