Kabir Bedi lashes out at CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani for ‘damaging India’s image’

Kabir Bedi calls CBFC's chief Pahlaj Nihalani a disaster, says censor board is damaging India's image

Veteran actor Kabir Bedi took to his social media platform to share his view about CBFC’s chief  Pahlaj Nihalani. Unhappy with the Central Board of Film Certification, the actor called Nihalani a disaster. He went on and said that the board is damaging India’s image. Kabir on Thursday took to Twitter, where he shared a link to an article shared by a user that stated that “India’s censors now won’t allow the word ‘cow’ in a documentary about a Harvard economist”.

Reacting about the same, the 71-year-old actor wrote: “Censor Board has no idea how much it is damaging India’s image with their stupid demands. Pahlaj Nihalani is a disaster.” He even tagged the official twitter handle of the Office of the Prime Minister

His tweet came out in context with a documentary on Amartya Sen, which was refused green signal by the censor board over the use of words “cow”, “Gujarat”, “Hindu India” and “Hindutva”, used by Sen in the film. Titled The Argumentative Indian, the documentary has been named after a book authored by Sen. The film has already screened in Kolkata, New York, and London. Check out his tweet here:

This is not the first time CBFC demands such cuts for a film, the board recently also suggested 12 cuts and two disclaimers for filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar’s next release Indu Sarkar.  Slated to hit the screens on July 28, the film features Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kirti Kulhari, and Tota Roy Chaudhary.

Apart from them, the film also features Supriya Vinod and Anupam Kher in a pivotal role.
