Happy Birthday Jeetendra: 5 songs which explain why he’s called ‘The Jumping Jack’

Veteran actor Jeetendra, known for his dancing style and acting prowess, turns 75 today

Veteran actor Jeetendra, who is known for his dancing prowess, turns 75 today. In his illustrious career spanning more than four decades, he has entertained us with his brilliant performances. Born Ravi Kapoor, he shone to limelight with 1967 hit Farz, which catapulted him to stardom. Sporting an all white attire became a fashion rage and youngsters of 70s and 80s imitated him. He was also known as Jumping Jack of Bollywood due to his dance steps.

Many of us will remember the 1983 hit Himmatwala which is most successful film till date. His pairing with Sridevi was appreciated and the Naina Mein Sapna song has been recreated in several films. The film was remade in 2013 with Ajay Devgn and Tamannah in lead roles.

Besides action films, he also earned accolades for his roles in Parichay, Caravan, Humjoli, Dharma Veer and others. As far as his dancing skills are concerned, here are five iconic songs featuring the veteran actor.

Mast Baharon Ka Main Aashiq: This song from Farz established Jeetendra as a dancing star, a tag which would stay with him throughout his film career. Sung by Mohammad Rafi, this number featuring him and Babita has been recreated several times, but none could match the energy level of the original track.

Dhal Gaya Din: Do you remember the scene in Om Shanti Om wherein Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone tap their feet holding badminton racquets. Let us tell you that the sequence was a tribute to none other than Jeetendra by recreating the song from his film Humjoli. Crooned by Mohammad Rafi and Asha Bhosle, the track earned a lot of popularity due to the all-white attire sported by him. His chemistry with Leena Chandavarkar was appreciated by the audience, making the song a memorable one.

Chadhti Jawani Meri Chaal Mastani: This song has been remixed several times in modern era. But none of them could match the standard of the original track featured in Caravan. Directed by Nasir Hussain, the film had Jeetendra, Asha Parekh and Aruna Irani in lead roles. This song composed by music maestro RD Burman was picturised on Jeetendra and Aruna Irani. Both the actors complimented each other with the brilliant dance moves which is still afresh in our minds.

Naino Me Sapna: Ajay Devgn and Tamannah sought to recreate the same magic with this song in 2013 flick Himmatwala. Sadly, the audience was not moved as none could match up to Jitu ji’s aura. His dance moves with Sridevi made this song a chartbuster and continues to play in various clubs.

Oi Amma: Jeetendra’s pairing with Jaya Prada was a successful one in the 80’s. This song from 1983 film Mawaali proved that only he could pull off such energetic dance steps. Well, we don’t need to say anything more. See it yourself.
