Commando 2 Box Office collection day 1: Vidyut Jammwal’s action film earns decent, despite poor reviews

Vidyut Jammwal's Commando 2 which features him as a man on a black money trail performed decent enough at the Box Office on the first day

Four years after the first instalment of Commando released, Vidyut Jammwal is back with the sequel. Commando 2 that hit theatres yesterday performed decent enough at the Box Office, earning Rs 5.15 crore. The sequel earned more than the first film as Commando had minted only Rs 3.69 crore on opening day. Directed by well-known comedy actor Deven Bhojani, the film has been produced by Vipul Shah.

Commando 2 also features Adah Sharma, Esha Gupta and Shefali Shah in important roles. The film released in 2200 screens all over India.

With these numbers, Commando 2 has managed to defeat Logan in terms of opening day collection. Starring Hugh Jackman, Logan minted Rs 4.75 crore in India.

The film did not get a good response from critics. Many said Vidyut was the only saving grace in the film and that it lacked a strong plot. Though Vidyut’s action skills were appreciated, critics said the movie could have been made better with a little more effort on the story.

Vidyut, on the other hand, had huge expectations from the movie. During the film’s promotions, he revealed, the action sequences in the film are nothing like Bollywood has produced before. “I love doing action and I believe am very good at it. Would you mind being number one at anything you do? I don’t have a problem with an image of being the best action hero. It’s a conscious effort to do best action films,” he had said.

Speaking about the film, Vidyut revealed to a leading daily, “Commando 2 is for fans who love action. We had to raise the barometer for this film. Commando 2 is very different from the first film. These films are like James Bond series, all parts are different from each other and one can watch them in any order.”
