Begum Jaan Box Office collection day 5: Vidya Balan’s film fails to entertain the masses, earns Rs 14 crore so far

With Began Jaan continuously failing to make a mark, it will be interesting to see if the movie be able to survive at the box office in the coming weeks

Vidya Balan’s Begum Jaan is struggling really hard to make its place at the box office, but unfortunately the figures of are only decreasing with every passing day. Being one of the most awaited and talked about film of the year, the Vidya Balan starrer has shown no progress in terms of collections.

In 5 days of its release, the movie did a decent business on its first weekend but dipped drastically on weekdays. Despite doing a good business in the overseas market, the movie failed to make its mark domestically. Begum Jaan has done a business of Rs 14.94 crore so far.

Made on a budget of almost Rs 19 crore, the film has recovered half the amount from overseas theatrical, TV, music and digital rights. In fact, it won’t be wrong to say that even Vidya’s bold and powerful performance was not able to save the movie at the box office.

Directed by Srijit Mukherji, Begum Jaan is a Hindi adaptation of his critically acclaimed Bengali film Rajkahini and depicts the story of a bunch of sex workers, who fight for their existence and survival during the India-Pakistan partition. While Vidya Balan plays the lead role of a brothel owner, the film also stars Gauhar Khan and Pallavi Sharda in important roles.

Here’s the detailed breakup of Begum Jaan‘s week 1 collections:

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and wrote:

#BegumJaan Fri 3.94 cr, Sat 3.51 cr, Sun 4.03 cr, Mon 1.87 cr, Tue 1.59 cr. Total: ₹ 14.94 cr. India biz.

Well, with Begum Jaan continuously failing to make a mark, it will be interesting to see if the movie be able to survive at the box office in the coming weeks after the release of Sonakshi Sinha’s Noor this week. Based on Pakistani author Saba Imtiaz’s novel Karachi! You Are Killing Me, the film will see Sonakshi in the role of a journalist.
