Anurag Kashyap lauds Meryl Streeps’ speech, insists Bollywood to start speaking up on politics

Anurag Kashyap in his tweet lauded Meryl Streep for her speech at Golden Globes award and said that Bollywood celebrities should take cue

Veteran Hollywood actor Meryl Streep gave an impassioned speech at the 74th Golden Globe Awards on Sunday after being honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. She slammed US President-elect Donald Trump in her speech by saying that when people in power took to bullying, everyone loses. Her eloquent speech won her several accolades, with many in India saying that the Bollywood stars should take a cue from Meryl on how to take a stand and speak bold and fearless.

Now filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has joined the bandwagon of people who were of this opinion. In a tweet, he wrote that people in the film industry don’t have to construct a speech like Meryl—they just need to speak up. Here’s what he wrote on Twitter:

We in our film industry don’t even need to give a speech like Meryl Streep if we just start standing up with those who actually speak up.

Other than Anurag, there were several others who had thoughts that Bollywood should learn a thing or two from these award shows of Hollywood. Have a look:

LOLing hard at all the Bollywood people who will say WHOA RESPECT MERYL STREEP, but won’t speak up against Raj Thackeray here.

In a politically charged speech, Streep tore down on Trump and made a passionate appeal inclusive in the industry. Without naming the President-elect, Meryl said that this year’s biggest performance wasn’t made by an actor but Trump himself when he publicly mocked a disabled reporter. She observed that disrespect invited disrespect, violence incited violence and therefore, hinted on a halt to all of this.

Meanwhile, Trump dismissed the speech by calling Meryl a ‘Hillary Lover’. In his defence, all Trump had to say was that he never intended to mock anyone. He reportedly said:

I was never mocking anyone. I was calling into question a reporter who had gotten nervous because he had changed his story
