Akshay Kumar calls box-office clash with Shah Rukh Khan an occupational hazard, not affected by it

Akshay Kumar has spoken about his upcoming film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha's clash with Shah Rukh Khan's untitled film this Independence Day

Akshay Kumar-starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha will take on Shah Rukh Khan’s untitled film this Independence Day. Earlier, his film based on the theme of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan was supposed to release to June 2, but it was postponed to August 11. Since the announcement, there is a lot of buzz over the fate of these two films involving B-town’s biggest superstars. After maintaining a silence over the issue, Akshay decided to speak up.

“My film is going to release on August 11, which is near to Independence Day and a right time. Besides this, there is another holiday in that week. As a result, there can easily be two big releases. After all, such instances occurred when Ghayal clashed with Dil, and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was pitted against Lagaan,” the Jolly LLB2 actor told Mumbai Mirror. “At least both of us can at least have our share of the pie,” he added further.

Akshay, who recently bagged the coveted National Film Award for his role of a naval officer in Rustom, commented on personal relations being affected due to release dates.

“Box office clashes are basically occupational hazards and ideally should not affect personal relations. At times when we have around 200 movies finding their space within 52 weeks, such clashes tend to become unavoidable.” In recent times, there have been instances of Bollywood celebs falling out with each other over clash of release dates. Be it the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil-Shivaay clash which broke the friendship between Karan Johar and Kajol, or the strain in relations between Rakesh Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan during Kaabil-Raees clash, B-town has witnessed its share of cold wars.
