Expressing his rage over the ongoing Ae Dil Hai Mushkil release controversy, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap took to Twitter and posted a series of tweets. In his posts, he mentioned how PM Narendra Modi never apologised for his trip to meet Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif. And therefore, nobody has any rights to stop a film which has already been shot and is ready for release in a few days.
Anurag Kashyap’s rant comes post the single screen theatres decision of banning the Karan Johar film in many states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and parts of Karnataka. In his tweets, Kashyap has also mentioned how the ban is completely unfair for the ‘Indian producers’ who have invested their money in this big project. One of the tweets clearly hits out at the fact that PM Modi took an unscheduled tour to visit the Pakistani PM on 25 December, the same time when Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was being shot in India.
Post the cinema owners associations’ ban on the film, several industry people have come out in the support of Karan Johar, including Swara Bhaskar and KRK. While Anurag Kashyap’s tweets have garnered criticisms, support for the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is evidently visible. On Friday, 14 October, the makers of the film spoke out and released an official statement. Apoorva Mehta, CEO, Dharma Productions said that the film has been cleared by the Censor Board and therefore there’s no hurdle in its release. He said: “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has been cleared by the censor board and we are gearing up for its release on the 28th of October. Diwali is all about love and Ae Dil…. is all about spreading love.”
Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, added: “Karan Johar’s films present love in its purest yet unique and modern way and this Diwali, he is celebrating love, friendship, and heartbreak. We are set for the film’s release on October 28. There can be no better way than celebrating Diwali with Ae Dil… a quintessential family entertainer.”
