It happened during the 34th over when Sri Lanka’s 169/4. The home team was already struggling against the Indian spin attack and were looking for a good partnership to develop. Angelo Mathews was the batsman who defended a delivery by Jasprit Bumrah. However, Kapugedera, who was at the non-striker’s end, called up for a quick single. By the time the batsmen ran to steal a run, Virat Kohli picked the ball from the covers area, ran towards the striker’s end, dived and threw the ball. His throw was so perfect that the ball dislodged the bails before Kapugedera could cross the crease.

The on-field umpires went directly to TV umpire and after going through the replays, Sri Lanka had another blow while the Indian boys got another breakthrough. Kapugedera was dismissed on 1 while everyone present in the Lankan dressing room was highly disappointed.
