Indian thrashed New Zealand by 45 runs through the Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-hit Champions Trophy warm-up match. Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and they opted to bat first. Kane Williamson-led side were bowled out for just 189 in 38.4 overs. For New Zealand, Luke Ronchi top scored with (66) followed by James Neesham (46).

For India, pacer Mohammed Shami and Bhuneshwar Kumar picked up three wickets each while spinner Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets. Team’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and pacer Umesh Yadav claimed a wicket each.

In reply, India started their chase on a positive note. After 26 overs, when India were 129/3, rain played spoilsport and forced the players to leave the field. But till then, India were well ahead of the D/L par score of 84, which resulted in their win.

Team India will play their first Champions Trophy 2017 match against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 4 at Edgbaston, England. Their next encounter will be with Sri Lanka on June 8, followed by South Africa on June 11.
