Openers Alastair Cook and Haseeb Hameed put England in a commanding position at the end of the fourth day of the first Test against India

Openers Alastair Cook and Haseeb Hameed put England in a commanding position at the end of the fourth day of the first Test against India. Captain Cook was playing 46 and Hameed was playing at 62 runs at the close of play. England were 114 for no loss and was leading by 163 runs. They would look to put up a total on Sunday and will try to bowl India out.

Earlier, all-rounder R Ashwin showed his might with the bat as he hit a superb half-century under pressure. India were reeling when Virat Kohli departed. Ashwin built partnerships with Wriddhiman Saha and Jadeja to take India closer to England’s mammoth 537 runs. India were bowled out for 488 runs and trail by only 49 runs.

R Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha  steadied the Indian ship as both the batsmen entered into an important partnership. Both the batsman took the Indian score to 411 at lunch.

Indian Test captain Virat Kohli got out hit-wicket on the fourth day of the first Test match against England. In an unfortunate way, Kohli got out at a personal score of 40 runs on Adil Rashid’s bowling as he disturbed the wicket with his left leg. India were reeling when Virat Kohli got out as England were leading by 176 runs.

Early in the morning, Ajinkya Rahane got out at 13 runs. This was after India lost two wickets in the last over of Day 3.

England had put a mammoth 537 runs on the board. Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay scored a century each in reply. Towards the end of the third day, India had lost both. Then in the last over, they lost two more wickets.
