Mitchell McClenaghan Returns To Mumbai Indians, Set To Replace Injured Jason Behrendorff

He scalped 19 wickets in 14 matches last year

It would be ‘ghar-wapsi’ of sorts for Mitchell McClenaghan who is set to replace an injured Jason Behrendorff in Mumbai Indians outfit for the upcoming Indian Premier League 11. With this, McClenaghan would have a fourth consecutive stint for the Mumbai Indians franchise. The Kiwi seamer will return to MI after the IPL Technical Committee approved him as a replacement for the Australian. He was therefore picked from a pool of registered players who are ready to play.

Here is what the official statement of IPL read:

“Mr. Behrendorff is suffering from a back problem and has been ruled out of the VIVO IPL 2018. In accordance with the Player Regulations, the Mumbai Indians were allowed to choose a replacement from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP),”

The Kiwi has been brought on board by Mumbai Indians for his base price of Rs 1 Cr. He played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians’ 2017 IPL triumph. He scalped 19 wickets in 14 matches last year.

The Kiwi also has the ability to chip in with the bat from the end of the lineup, which can serve as a potential boost to Mumbai Indians during the upcoming IPL. He is also a death-over specialist thanks to his change of pace.
