Ruchika Girhotra case: Supreme Court upholds conviction of ex-Haryana DGP SPS Rathore

Ruchika Girhotra, an aspiring tennis player, ended her life in 1993, three years after she was molested by SPS Rathore.

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the conviction of former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case, ANI reported.

The apex court also reduced his sentence from one and half years to the sentence already undergone.

On August 20, 1990, Rathore, who was also the president of the Haryana Lawn Tennis Association (HLTA), had molested 14-year-old Ruchika Girhotra, a budding tennis player.

The incident took place in the HLTA office in Panchkula.

Post the incident, Ruchika was expelled from school on grounds of ‘indiscipline’ following her allegations against Rathore.

Ruchika had ended her life in December 28, 1993 by consuming poison.
