A Rajya Sabha MP and Vice-President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Smriti Irani is known for being a strong-headed political leader and has been in the public eye since she became a finalist in the Miss India beauty pageant in 1998. Now the Minister of Information and Broadcasting as well as Minister of Textiles, Smriti rose to fame and became a household name for portraying the role of a sanskari bahu Tulsi Virani in the iconic daily soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

Smriti was conferred with the ITA Pride of Indian Television Award at the recently concluded 17th Indian Television Academy (ITA) Awards. While addressing the gala event, she revealed that how producer Ekta Kapoor chose her to lead the cast of KSBKBT even though the team had rejected her as they did not found her fit for the television role.
