Ian Grillot who suffered bullet injuries while saving Indians in Kansas shootout honoured with USD 100,000

Ian Grillot, who was injured while trying to save Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla during a shootout at bar in Kansas was felicitated by Indian-Americans with $100,000 in Houston. During the 14th Annual Gala of India House Houston, Grillot was also hailed as ‘A True American Hero’.

24-year-old, Grillot was injured badly when he intervened during the racial attack by a Navy veteran Adam Purinton at the night club in Kansas.

During the felicitation, Grillot said, “I do have a very powerful message and if I can help empower people and spread hope and love, then why not? I am honored to be at India House that serves so many families from so many communities in the Houston area.”

The Chair of the Annual Gala, Jiten Agarwal said, “Ian Grillot reminds us of the promise of America and its greatness. He is a true hero in every sense. He took a bullet for a stranger and risked his own life for another.”

A Facebook post by the India House Houston said “On behalf of the Indian-American community in Houston, India House recognised this selfless act beyond the call of duty and has extended the community’s gratitude to Ian Grillot by helping him to buy a house.”

Indian techie Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, was killed and his colleague Alok Madasani was critically injured in the shooting at night club in Kansas.
