Singer-turned-religious leader Junaid Jamshed has been reportedly killed in the Pakistani place that crashed on Wednesday. He along with his wife was among the 47 ill-fated passengers of the plane that crashed near a suburban village in Havelian.

Jamshed was in Chitral for ten days for his preaching sessions.

The number of casualties has not been ascertained as yet. According to reports, the PIA plane was flying from Chitral and was on its way to Islamabad.

According to witnesses, the plane was burning before it plummeted into the ground.

A senior government official based in the Havelian region has reportedly said that all bodies are burned beyond recognition.

According to military’s media wing ISPR, army troops and helicopters have been dispatched to the crash site for rescue efforts.

“We regret to inform that PIA’s ATR-42 aircraft operating as PK-661, carrying around 40 persons lost its contact with the control tower on its way from Chitral to Islamabad a short while ago. All resources are being mobilised to locate the aircraft. Media will be kept informed as the situation develops,” PIA spokesperson Danial Gilani said in a statement.
