Donald Trump's National security adviser quits over links with Russia

Michael Flynn further expressed hope that Donald Trump administration will go down in history as one of the greatest presidencies in US history.

Michael Flynn has stepped down as the national security adviser to US President Donald Trump following allegations over his links with Russia.

Flynn is said to have given ” incomplete information” ro the white house officials about his discussions with the Russian ambassador over US sanctions against Moscow.

Flynn’s resignation within a month makes him one of the shortest serving adviser to president in US history.

Earlier reports from US media said that the Justice Department had warned the White House about Finns contacts with Russia late last month.

In his resignation letter Flynn wrote: ” I inadvertently briefed the Vice President-elect and others with incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian ambassador. I have sincerely apologized to the President and the Vice President, and they have accepted my apology.”

” I am tendering my resignation, honored to have served our nation and the American people in such a distinguished way,” he said in the letter.

He further expressed hope that Trump administration will go down in history as one of the greatest presidencies in US history.

“I know with the strong leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence and the superb team they are assembling, this team will go down in history as one of the greatest presidencies in US history.”

Meanwhile, Trump has named retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg as the acting national security adviser.
