While United States President-elect Donald Trump claimed that global warming was only a Chinese hoax, the World Meteorological Organisation has confirmed that the year 2016 was the hottest on record. After a thorough research, the scientists at the space agency found that 2016 was 1.1 degrees Centigrade (2 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than the average temperature between 1850 and 1900.

The World Meteorological Organisation said that it landed to this conclusion after combing data from NASA, the British Meteorological Office and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts and the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It further claimed that 2016 was only 0.07 degrees Celsius warmer than 2015.

“The planet’s average surface temperature has risen about 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit (1.1 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century, a change driven largely by increased carbon dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere,” the statement read.

It is being reported that the climate cycle like El Niño and a coupled ocean-atmosphere phenomenon La Niña also played a major role in the changing and fluctuating temperatures. The rising temperatures are having devasting effects on the cold regions including the Arctic and Antarctic while causing coral bleaching at the same time.

The methane and carbon dioxide levels have also said to have increased. This comes just days before Donald Trump gears up to be the 45th President of the United States. Donald Trump had made some of the bizarre statements on Global warming including that he believed that Global warming was only a hoax invented by the Chinese.
