Yuvraj Singh injured, does this mean Gautam Gambhir has a chance in Champions Trophy squad?

Yuvraj Singh suffered an injury against Mumbai Indians, if his injury get serious it will leave a vacant spot in India's Champions Trophy squad to be played in England & Wales

Yuvraj Singh made a comeback to the side in January 2017 against England in the ODI series, he got picked up in the ICC Champions Trophy squad as well owing to his performance in the previous ODI series. Recently, India’s squad for Champions Trophy got announced and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir did not get a chance in the national side despite being one of the leading run-scorer of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. He started trending on Twitter as well soon after the selection of India’s squad as well.

But, it seems Gambhir might just benefit from Yuvraj’s injury that he suffered from against Mumbai Indians in a league game. He injured his fingers trying to field a ball inside the 30-yard circle. Yuvraj resumed fielding after a while but he was suffering from pain when he came to bat.He got out soon as well, his performance was one of the reasons SRH lost the game and had their IPL 2017 playoffs spot in danger.

Gambhir has been performing reasonably well in the domestic season as well. Gambhir’s record in ICC events is commendable as well and he has got immense talent to justify his berth in the side. He was the top scorer for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and ICC World Cup 2011.

Gambhir is a tough customer and his improved stance can work wonders for India as they struggle on green pitches of England. They need someone who can handle the swing from overseas players. If he gets selected, it will be a big news for the veteran who was waiting for Champions Trophy call-up.

Note: There is no official statement on Yuvraj’s injury, Gambhir making a comeback in the side is a mere speculation.
