Watch: When Virat Kohli told Dhoni what to do

The discussions have been yielding results in the entire ODI series

When people talk about Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli, they tend to pit them against each other. Virat Kohli is the Test captain of India and Dhoni the ODI captain. Their records are juxtaposed and two sides emerge on social media. One that supports Dhoni and the other that supports Kohli. It is almost sure that Kohli will succeed Dhoni as ODI captain. But, still people want to know when.

However, when Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni play together, the chemistry between them is great. The duo share a great bond with each other and often share advises.

MS Dhoni had recently said that he discusses the match with his successor. Dhoni has said that he and Kohli had discussions on field.

“I have already started using him (Kohli) more. If you witness a match you will see I have more interactions with him on the field because two individuals of course will conduct in different ways,” PTI quoted Dhoni as saying.

Virat Kohli also respects Dhoni. In a recent interview, Kohli has a lot of good words to say about MS Dhoni.

“When I was playing under MS Dhoni it was all about preparing for my own batting plans and I didn’t have so much responsibility in terms of leading the team. I would talk to Dhoni, fellow players and to batsmen and bowlers about plans but the decision wasn’t left on me. Decision making is very hard at times and it takes a lot of courage to do that,” he said.

And this is what he did. New Zealand were again going at 6 runs an over. Indian pacers and spinners were not being able to contain the Kiwi batsmen. New Zealand were heading towards a big score. When the chips were down, Indian captain MS Dhoni approached the captain of the future, Virat Kohli. Dhoni and Kohli were seen exchanging talks with each other. It seemed like a discussion between two equal parties. Both looked like captains and were involved in a constructive discussion.

The discussions have been yielding results in the entire ODI series. New Zealand batsmen have been hitting Indian bowlers in the first 20 overs of the match. The spinners would contain them later. This is what happened in fourth ODI also. They were inching towards a big total. But, they were contained at 260 runs in 50 overs. And, Virat Kohli’s inputs seems to have helped the captain.
