PV Sindhu dedicates her Korean Open title victory to PM Narendra Modi on his birthday and Twitter is loving it

PV Sindhu defeated Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 in the finale of the Korean Open

After becoming the first female Indian shuttler to win an Olympic silver in 2016, there was no turning back for PV Sindhu. Not only did she defeat Carolina Marin (her opponent to whom she lost Rio Olympics 2016 women’s singles final) in the Indian Open earlier this year, she has now become the first Indian woman to clinch Korean Open Title. Her journey throughout the tournament has been phenomenal. After beating China’s He Bingjiao in the semifinal, Sindhu ended up winning a nail-biter match against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 in the finale.

Right after the match, people across the country celebrated her win and wished the ‘Indian Golden Daughter’ on the micro-blogging site. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official Twitter handle to congratulate Sindhu for her feat. In return, Sindhu dedicated her victory to PM Modi as a gift to him on his birthday.

Here’s what PM Narendra Modi wrote to Sindhu:

And this how PV Sindhu replied:

And the Twitterati are admiring Sindhu’s gesture:

Apart from PM Modi, many celebrities and politicians came forward to wish Sindhu for her amazing victory.

Last time when they faced each other, Nozomi had defeated her in the World Championship final. While speaking to the media personnel after the match, Sindhu said,

I had lost to her after being 19-17 in the World Championship but I didn’t keep that in my mind even though there were long rallies. I kept telling myself next point is important. I had to control the shuttle very much, so there was nothing in my mind.
