IPL 2017, DD v KKR, innings report: Despite Samson's brilliance, spinners restrict DD to 160

Coulter-Nile got rid of Pant with the first ball of his second spell. In the same over, Iyer departed to the same bowler.

Under scorching heat of 37 degrees, Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to field first on a sticky Eden Gardens wicket. For DD, there was a change at the top as Karun Nair walked out to open with Sanju Samson. The both of them played some glorious shots up front. For the first time in the series, Nair looked to be in good touch. Woakes were brought in early into the attack but he too was taken apart with some good cricketing shots. Narine was brought in to take a wicket in the fourth over, and he responded getting rid of Karun Nair who was set for 15 off 17 balls. The very next over Kuldeep Yadav was handed over the ball. In the power-play they scored 53 for 1.

In the middle overs, Iyer and Samson was happy taking the singles and keep the scoreboard ticking against the spinners. At the end of 12 overs they were 94 for 1. KKR had kept a lid on their run scoring, thanks to spinners. KKR fielding was sloppy and bad. Samson kept playing a matured knock not being hassled by anything. Samson was finally dismissed for 60 of the bowling of Umesh Yadav. In his quota, Umesh Yadav gave away 38 runs and picked up Samson. Pant came in and looked in his elements from the outset. Coulter-Nile got rid of Pant with the first ball of his second spell. In the same over, Iyer departed too.

Corey Anderson then got run-out trying to scamper for a single. It seemed the spinners choked the Delhi batsman despite Samson’s brilliance. Narine was economical again, he gave away just 25 in 4 overs picking up a wicket. Daredevils set KKR 161 to win.
