IPL 2017, KXIP vs SRH: Ishant Sharma gets trolled yet again as he proves KXIP selectors wrong

Ishant Sharma leaked runs in the death overs as Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Kane Williamson took his side to a gigantic total

Kings XI Punjab gave Ishant Sharma a chance to prove himself for the first match at Mohali in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Ishant was given a chance at a pro pace Mohali wicket. To everyone’s surprise, Ishant started off well giving just 3 runs in his first over as Sunrisers Hyderabad openers David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan came into bat. But, the way Ishant ended his spell he ended up giving 41 runs in 4 overs.

Ishant bowled two overs on the trot in the powerplay overs. After a perfect first over with tight line and length beating the offside edge of the bat, Ishant gave 9 runs in his second over as Dhawan struck him for a maximum followed by a few singles. His bowling figures still read 12 for 0 in 2 overs.

Skipper Glenn Maxwell had expectations from Ishant as he brought him into the attack to bowl the last over of the powerplay overs. He gave 9 runs in the 6th over of SRH’s spell, still bowling with an economy rate which was acceptable given the circumstances. Ishant could not take a wicket in the powerplay overs.

SRH were off to a flier, after Dhawan and Warner’s massacre, Kane Williamson joined him as well. Ishant came into bowl the 19th over, KXIP were in a dire need to restrict SRH under the score of 200 but Ishant took a heavy beating.

Williamson struck him for boundaries, thanks to Manan Vohra who stopped a certain six from crossing over the ropes and saved four runs. Ishant ended up giving 20 runs in the 19th over and SRH went on to score 207 for 3 in 20 overs.

Ishant was not brought in the IPL Player Auction as he had a base price of Rs. 2 crores. After the auction, KXIP’s mentor backed Ishant and brought him into the squad and gave him chances in the playing eleven as well, but, it seems like he did not make a wise move after all.
