IPL 2017, GL v MI, innings report: Thanks to Faulkner, Tye's FINISHING-KICK GL post 153

Indian Premier League 2017, MI v GL: Lasith Malinga struck early, he sent Brendon McCullum packing for 6. That brought Raina into bat

Gujarat Lions won the toss and to everybody’s surprise opted to bat first. Mumbai Indians are sitting pretty at the top of the table and if they win today they go at the top of the table. Ishan Kishan and Brendon McCullum walked out to bat and Ishan Kishan went after Lasith Malinga straightaway. Lasith Malinga struck early, he sent Brendon McCullum packing for 6. That brought Raina into bat, but Ishan Kishan on the other end was going hell for leather, he was going after the bowling. Raina departed for 1 looking to take on the bowlers, Bumrah got him.

Malinga did not stop there he also removed Aaron Finch for a duck and then Dinesh Karthik also departed for 2 of the bowling of Hardik Pandya. That is when Ravindra Jadeja walked out to the middle to join Ishan Kishan, who was looking settled. At that stage it looked they would not get to a par score. Ishan Kishan who was playing really well departed one run short of deserving 50, he got out for 48 and Harbhajan Singh got his wicket. Ravindra Jadeja showed resistance but he too departed for 28. Krunal Pandya was one of the pick of their bowlers he picked 3 wickets in his 4 overs giving away 14 runs. But then came Andrew Tye and James Faulkner and he started hitting the boundaries. They stitched a partnership 43 of 18 balls, that is what gave the impetus to Gujarat Lions. James Faulkner departed of the very next ball, Bumrah struck twice in that over. Bumrah picked up 2 wickets in his 4 overs giving away 32 runs.
