World Hockey League has reached the semi-final stages. The focus has instantly shifted from cricket to hockey as India made it even with their win over Pakistan on June 18. Now, India will be going up against Netherlands in the semi-final after an emphatic win over Pakistan by 7-1. Netherlands are currently in 4th spot in the International Rankings whereas India are in 6th spot as they will go into the tournament to punch above their weight.
When Netherlands met India in the Rio Olympics 2016, they outclassed India by beating them by 2-1. with Hofman and Van de Weerden. Whereas only Ragunath could score a goal for India.
As far as this tournament is concerned, both the teams have had an excellent tournament. India recorded a 7-1, 4-1 and 3-0 win over Pakistan, Scotland and Canada respectively. Whereas Netherlands have beaten Pakistan, Scotland and Canada by 4-0, 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.
India had a poor run in the Rio Olympics 2016 as they were knocked out in the group stages itself owing to the close encounters that did not go their way. They will be looking to enter the finals now and go up against Argentina or England.
