IPL 2017 MI v KXIP: Mohit Sharma's last over magic works for Punjab as they beat Mumbai by 7 runs

Despite being hit for a six in the last over, Mohit Sharma bowled a few dot balls and took Kings XI Punjab to victory and defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 runs

Earlier it was a must win situation for the Kings XI Punjab(KXIP) so that they could keep alive the chance to reach the qualifiers. And later when they executed their plans and strategies, it just not only gave a stunning surprise to their fans but also a shocking defeat to the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 runs in a thriller face-off of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 10 held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Earlier today, Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited the Kings XI Punjab to bat first. Glenn Maxwell & C0. had this in the back of their mind that victory is essential in this game for them. With the same mindset, the KXIP batsmen batted massively and with Glenn Maxwell (47) and Wriddhiman Saha’s 93 not-out, they successfully put a huge mountain of 230 runs.

The target of 231 runs was indeed not an easy nut to crack for the Mumbi Indians. However, they are qualified for the play-offs but a game is a game after all. In order to defend the big looking target and retain their first position in the points table, Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons came to open the Mumbai inning. The duo gave the much-needed start as the opening pair added a total of 99 runs. Lendl Simmons hit his another IPL 10 fifty and ended up scoring 59 0f 32 balls before he was dismissed by Glenn Maxwell in the 10th over.

Unfortunately, skipper Rohit Sharma (5) and Nitish Rana (12) couldn’t provide their support to the fullest but later, Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya brought back the interest and made the game alive. The pair of Pollard and Pandya added a total of 55 runs for the 5th wicket before Sandeep Sharma took his first wicket and dismissed Hardik Pandya for 30 runs off 13 balls.

Then came Karn Sharma at number 7 to bat and he too contributed his part. Probably, for the first time, he batted like a pro and score 19 runs off mere 8 balls. In the 18th over, Mumbai got another blow and Karn Sharma was dismissed by Mohit Sharma.

Finally, came the last over where Mumbai needed 16 runs off 6 balls to win while Harbhajan Singh and Keiron Pollard were batting. In the first ball, they took two runs but one run was deducted as it was a short run. In the second ball, Pollard had the strike and he hit a huge six.

But it was Mohit Sharma from Punjab who bowled few dot balls and took the game for his team and finally, Punjab defeated Mumbai by 7 runs.
