Watch: Subashis Roy celebrates after getting hit for a six, pulls off a final ball 'Lagaan' moment!

When will Bangladeshi players learn from their premature celebrations as Subashis Roy refreshes the memory of T20 World Cup 2016 clash against India

Bangladesh players have had a history of premature celebrations and doing bizarre things on the cricket ground. This time around they take it up a notch during their first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle. The memories of Mushfiqur Rahim’s premature celebrations against India in T20 World Cup 2016 have not even faded yet, but Roy does something on the field which is inspired by superhit Bollywood movie, Aamir Khan’s starter ‘Lagaan’.

Roy was fired up when he took the wicket of Upul Tharanga early on the first over. After removing the Sri Lankan opener, Roy bowled a spot-on bouncer to Kusal Mendis. The ball took a top edge off the bat and travelled to deep fine leg fielder Mushfiqur Rahim who was standing just inches away from the boundary. What happened next will remind you of the ‘Lagaan’ movie.

Rahman took the catch but went off-balance which ended up stepping over the boundary rope. Roy on the other hand, started celebrating because he believed that Rahman had taken the catch, he roared on the field with his fists pumped in the air. Though, his happiness was short-lived as the Umpire behind him was signalling for a six.

This instance had a striking resemblance to the last ball of ‘Lagaan’ movie, the only difference was that it was Captain Andrew Russell who had taken the catch despite going beyond the boundary. But, the celebrations were quite similar as Roy believed that he has a hat-trick chance getting back-to-back wickets in the very first over.

What turned out to be a fitting example of ‘rubbing salt on wounds’ was that Mendis went on to score 194 runs in the first innings. helping Sri Lanka post a score of 494 in the first innings. Roy got heavily trolled on Twitter as well as Twitterati related his celebration to the infamous premature Rahim celebration.
