Supreme Court allows BCCI to spend Rs 1.33 crore for two Tests versus England

The Supreme Court also allowed the BCCI to spend Rs 25 lakh each for the three ODIs and three T20 matches which will be played after the Test series.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to spend Rs 1.33 crore for the fourth and fifth Test between India and England scheduled to be played in Mumbai and Chennai respectively.

The apex court also asked the BCCI to release Rs 25 lakhs each for the three ODIs and three T20 matches which will be played after the Test series. It also asked the cricket board to present a report of the revenue collections from all the Test matches played in the series.

On November 8, the apex court had abolished the hurdles faced by state association for hosting the India-England Tests series by permitting the cash-rich BCCI to incur an expense of Rs 58.66 lakh for the opening Test at Rajkot. It also asked the board to maintain the account of expenditure during the series and submit it to the RM Lodha commitee.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing on December 9 regarding the Lodha panel reforms, in wake of the committee’s request that former home secretary GK Pillai be appointed an observer in the matter.
