Mohammad Amir fights with Essex teammate Paul Walter during Natwest T20 Blast game | Watch Video

Mohammad Amir lashed out at Essex teammate for making a mess of a catch that would have ended the rampant innings of Chris Nash

Mohammad Amir, the Pakistani fast bowler playing his debut Natwest tournament once again came under the limelight for the wrong reasons. However, this time around his anger was justified to an extent, though he got a bit carried away in doing so. It happened during a NatWest T20 Blast game between Essex and Sussex on August 18. Amir was into his second over, bowling in the powerplay overs and opener Chris Nash was on strike.

On the second delivery of the fifth over Amir bowled a slightly fuller length delivery which was flicked away by Nash as he shuffled across the crease. Amir had a fielder at deep square leg for that shot. But Paul Walter standing at the position could not judge the ball as he lost it in the sun. Walter did not know where the ball went and lost a wicket-taking opportunity.

Amir was furious as he saw Walter make a mess of a chance. Agitated with Walter’s effort Amir was fuming in anger. Firstly, he pumped his fists towards the ground and then signaled Walter to use his sunglasses to block the sun which he had sitting pretty on his cap.

Later on, the missed chance proved to be expensive for Essex. Nash who was given a second chance when he was batting on 15 from 13 balls went on to score a match-winning knock of 73 from 53 balls hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Despite the missed chance, Amir bowled well throughout the innings giving just 27 runs from 4 overs and taking one wicket. Amir ended up taking Nash’s wicket in the penultimate over of the first innings. But, till then the damage was done, Sussex put on a total of 172 for 4 which turned out to be too good for Essex.

Essex never looked like they were in hunt of chasing down the target. They were bowled out for 117 with 25 balls to spare.
