KRK questions Mithali Raj's dismissal in ICC Women's World Cup final, claims India's loss to England was 'fixed'

Kamaal R Khan questioned Mithali Raj's dismissal during India's chase in the ICC Women's World Cup final against England. His angry tweet backfired within no time

Kamaal R Khan, also known as KRK, is not a stranger to controversies. He never leaves a stone unturned to remain in news, mostly for wrong reasons. This time, he was at the receiving end of Twitterati during the ICC Women’s World Cup final match between India and England. Chasing a target of 229, Indian women’s team under Mithali Raj lost the match to their English counterparts by nine runs in a thrilling contest.

Mithali Raj failed to contribute much to the team’s total as she was run out for 17. The Indian skipper’s dismissal angered KRK who claimed that the match was fixed as her getting out was unusual.  However, his tweet backfired and soon the Deshdrohi actor was at receiving end on social media.”Win n defeat is part of game but Girls u did ur best except Mithali n we r proud of u. U have inspired millions of girls to play! #INDvENG!” he tweeted later. It seems that his grudge against Mithali did not end and he chose not to extend wishes to her. But the cricket fans were not at all in a mood to forgive him, as they seemed visibly upset over the team’s disappointing defeat.

Chasing 229 to win, Indian women’s team had a disappointing start when opener Smriti Mandhana was dismissed early without scoring a run. After Mithali Raj got out for 17, Harmanpreet Kaur and Punam Raut stitched together a partnership of 95 runs for the 3rd wicket. After Kaur was dismissed after scoring her 10th ODI fifty, Raut carried forward the proceedings with Veda Krishnamurthy supporting from the other end.

But things changed when Raut was dismissed for 86 and Krishnamurthy too lost her wicket after scoring 35. The remaining batters could not sustain the pressure and England seized the opportunity to their advantage. Anya Shrubsole was adjudged Player-of-the-Match for her match-winning spell of 6/46.
